5 Essential Buying Tips for Buying a Used Mountain Bike
Acquiring a second hand mountain bike is considered a good choice for new beginners who want to enter the mountain biking sport. It is an excellent option for veterans who could upgrade and continue to participate in professional mountain biking. A number of apt mountain bike styles are available in the market- name it and you have it. So what is it really that makes you take the right choice?
To begin with you need to ascertain the kind of mountain cyclist you aim to be. Mountain bikes could possibly be categorized as follows: All Terrain (Trial Bikes), Freeride, Downhill (DH), and lastly Cross Country (XC).
If you are the one who prefers cycling on rigid terrain and would like to try out tricks as well then go for a Free-ride bike. It is the heaviest of all mountain bikes and certainly not meant for comfortable lengthy rides on even ground. On the other hand the Cross Country bikes (XC) which are also lightweight are incredibly skilled bikes but unsuitable for rigid land. For those who consider downhill racing interesting, a specialized Downhill (DH) bike is waiting out there for you.
If you are a novice in biking then I suggest that you settle for an All Terrain mountain bicycle in the beginning. As you excel in the sport you might upgrade and purchase a more dedicated bike. An All Terrain bike of good make will allow you to try out almost all of your confined trials.
Before you start mountain biking nearly all bikers have a universal query - Full Suspension of Hard-tail? As the name suggests, the former has both front and back suspensions while the latter settles for back suspension only. Hard-tail bikes are lightweight with minimum maintenance as compared to Full Suspension bikes which are also more costly. However, in case you are a beginner then I recommend Full Suspension bikes since they are a lot more comfortable and in the long run your will be saved from a painful bottom.
You should definitely try out your neighboring locale for suitable test run before buying a used bike which helps you prior to making a major decision. For example, if you are interested in exciting downhill trails but happen to live in a normally leveled region then DH bikes will not be suitable to you. If you cannot decide on your own check out your local dealer, make queries and participate on internet discussions. The farther knowledge you gain the more beneficial it is for you to make the correct decision. Last but not the least ponder the kind of mountain bike cyclist you desire to be and I assure that you will end up buying the ideal bike to match you requirements and happily cycle for many more pleasurable years in the future.

Bike hand break squeak? How to get rid of this?
Just bought a used bike. A very good deal, nice bike but the breaks squeak badly. How do I get rid of the squeak? Do the break pads need to be replaced or is there another way to remedy this?
Several things may be causing this. The BRAKE pads (not break pads) could be misaligned. As you apply the brakes - the rear part of the pad should come in contact with the wheel first. If the front part comes in contact first - this causes a shudder & then a squeak. If that's not it, try lightly sanding the pads with a fine grit sandpaper & cleaning the wheels with something that won't leave a residue.
Lastly, the pads may be just plain old & hardened. If that's the case, they need to be replaced. DO NOT buy replacement pads from a discount store. I did that once. Big mistake...they squeaked worse than the ones I was replacing. Go to a real bike shop & take your old pads with you to match up exactly. My LBS (local bike shop) sells road bike pads for $4.00 per pair & mountain bike pads for $8.00 a pair. CHEAP.
